Open Mic and Live Music

It's been a great fall, we've been playing lots of music.  Mike and I are going to be playing some Saturday Morning gigs at Janey's 6602 E Cave Creek Rd Cave Creek, AZ.

Our open Mic at The Hideaway is really turning into musician venue.  Each week we see more great players coming out to jam.  And a new thing is happening, we are seeing these players get together and work on new projects.

This is one such project, "The Hemptones," we are doing four part harmonies… great fun!  These guys are all working musicians with their own gigs but when we get together... wow!

The guys that I've played with for several years, Mike Assad and Kevin Brennan under the name The Rennesance Rednecks, along with new addition Jack Horan on bass, are doing weekend gigs, where we invite local talent to play on our breaks. Above we are with 12 year old Madison Holmes, who is making quite a name for herself around the north valley.

Mike and I are also working on a rock project, "Rooster," with my old highschool friends Steve Purcell on Drums and monster lead guitar player Scott "The Pin" Maish!  These three guys and I have been playing together on and off for four decades.  I love this band!

Mad Coyote Joe’s World Famous All Purpose Cold Remedy

I was at the open mic at The Cave Creek Smokehouse last night.  My friend Hatman Dan was there and waiting to do his bit.  He mentioned that he was still, after three weeks, feeling the effects of this flu that is going around.  I told him that I would send him my home remedy for getting rid of those colds that reside in your chest, like a politician holding on to a lie!
When I got up this morning and saw that the rest of the country was suffering from record low temperature I decided to post this on my blog.
But first a warning; if you have any heart problems, or a weak constitution I wouldn’t try this.  In fact you do this at your own risk!

Mad Coyote Joe’s World Famous All Purpose Cold Remedy
This is legendary around our neighborhood.  Those that have tried it, will tell you it only works for the worst of colds, but work it does!

1 Extra large coffee mug
1 pot of very hot strong coffee
3 shots Bushmill's Irish Whiskey
1 heavy squeeze of fresh lemon juice
1 Tbl. Honey
a pinch of cinnamon

Vick’s Vaporub
A heavy sweatshirt
A large comforter on you bed

It’s best to have a spouse or friend to help you with this process.  Get the shower as hot as you can stand.  Step in and run the water on your face and chest, breathing in the steam.  Meanwhile have your accomplice take the mug and pour in a good sized cup of the coffee and add the whiskey, lemon juice, honey and cinnamon, stir well.  Turn off the shower and while standing in the steam drink the coffee beverage as fast as possible, being careful not to burn your mouth.  Step out of the shower and apply the Vick’s liberally to your chest, neck, behind your ears and on your nose and face.  Put on the sweatshirt and get into bed.
This is the important part, no matter how hot you get stay under the covers.  The hot shower will open all your pores and the whiskey will knock you out.  If you stay under the covers, the coffee will wake you up, in about three hours and the bed will be soaking wet.  You will have sweated the cold out. Thank me later!

Open Mic at Cave Creek Coffee Co Going Very Well

If you live in the general Phoenix area come on out to The Cave Creek Coffee Co, on Thursday nights, we are getting some amazing talent at our Open Mic. This week we were packed with both local talent and even a group touring the world, The Nestlers, who stopped by to enjoy our room, are on a tour that ends in Austraila next summer. When I asked how they heard about us they said that they had stopped by the last time they were working in this part of the world, a few years ago and the room was just as talent filled as last time!
The Cave Creek Coffee co is located at the far west end of Cave Creek, 6033 E cave Creek rd. The sign up sheet goes out at 6:30 pm and we get started at 7pm and finish at 10pm. Bring your voice and or guitar or just come in and enjoy some of their delicious food along with great wine and beer specials for the open mic crowd!

That's me being backed up by my old friend and sidekick, Guitarist Mike Assad, Kevin Brennan is keeping the beat behind us as usual, in this great shot by Peter Tompkins.

Restaurant Reviews a Big hit!

Okay, as usual I check the statistics page for this blog at lest one time a day. By coincident, I’ve done two restaurant reviews in the past few days. My page hits went through the roof. About five times the amount of hits I get on other subjects. So this tells me that you, the readers, like it when Kathy and I review a restaurant.

If you live in the Phoenix metro, or surrounding areas, and would like for us to take a look at a restaurant, that you feel is above average, let us know. Or if you are looking for a new place to enjoy a specific type of cuisine, leave a comment asking. We’ve lived here for just under fifty years each and if we don’t know where to find what you are looking for I’m sure that one of our readers or friends will. Also if you want more of any other subject that we are working on, tell us.

Thanks for reading and please keep sharing our work.

Warmly,

Mad Coyote Joe
